I saw a great band last night. It was Dan Haley, Mike Danner, Tim Acott and Sam Henry. I especially liked Sam's drumming.

It was fun to dance with Janet and Christie (Kristi?)

what a busy night

mIchael hurley's last portland show for some months, first time I saw him at the Laurelthirst. Rode my bike across the bridge then had to come right back because the boys were locked out with sushi. Back to see Little Sure and lynn conover for my first trip to the pub with Nick then to the not really Occupy decentralized dance party. Nick is more the age of the ddp kids it was kind of like a bar mitzvah party. I guess the best parts were going into the World Trade Center and Sweet Caroline, It's raining Men and the Bohemian Rhapsody sing along.

Shiny Happy Solstice

The Portland Christmas Revels were pretty good, traditional to see St. George and all. But the Winter Solstice Puppet show is one of the best things ever.

Zappadan

As we come to the close of Zappadan,, music has been the best this December. Yesterday it was two new banjo players sitting in with old favorites Petty Cash and Jackstraw. I don't know the first one's name. He was playing with Dan and Janet at the Festival of the Last Minute. The second was Sam Hill with Jackstraw.

The month has been not only a bounty of listening and dancing to music but of hanging out with musicians as well. Breakfast with Baby Gramps' band was an other- worldly experience. And I loved my house concert, even though I was kind of distracted being a hostess. But for pure enjoyment, I'm not sure anything can beat learning to play 3 ball from Dave Reisch and Jimmy Boyer and being beat by Tricia who vacations at Upper Lake Nemahbin with her guitar god husband Jon.

Happy Hanukkah too! I begin my celebration of the festival of lights with Woody Guthrie.

Rather then venturing out farther for music, Friday Annie brought the Laurelthirst into my living room. Now I guess I can say I've been to a house concert. It was cool to see guitar and etc. cases all over the place. Then I went back to the bar Saturday for more Portland Country Underground, and Sunday for Dan Haley and Lex with the Freaks again.

Music I didn't see too

I made it to Jackstraw and Bingo Tuesday. But then flaked out on going to anywhere but the Laurelthirst and missed Secret Drum Band. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nilesa/6514049049/

Wednesday I saw some young women with strings and a keyboard singing songs. One of them sounded like Joanna Newsome. I wasn't silent during the show engendering some stress. Then I saw Lewi Longmire and his band last night. I'm probably in a rut.

PCU again on Monday. Little Sue sang a couple of songs. I would have liked to stay to play
pool but my arm went numb.

Julian Assangevs. Herman Cain. Hurts my head.

Music is the best though. I saw Danet and Janet, Dan and Tim A., a little of the Freaks. I missed the Re-occupy dance party, but did put some time in at the park and City Hall.
